2007年度の計画と経過 : 看護師が行う感染予防のための遮断技術を検討するために, 集中治療室[以下ICU]で多く検出されるメチシリン耐性黄色ブドウ球菌[以下MRSA]を指標として, 人工呼吸器を装着した患者に行う気管吸引操作時の看護技術と療養環境の汚染に注目し次のことを行った. (1) 気管吸引時の看護師の感染予防行動を観察して気管吸引操作前の不適切操作や気管吸引操作終了後の療養環境と医療器具の高頻度接触部位を明らかにする. (2) 臨床における患者のMRSAの有無別にみた療養環境からの環境検出菌を明らかにする. その結果, 40人の人工呼吸器装着患者100場面の観察から, 気管吸引操作終了後の高頻度接触部位はリネン, ベッド柵, モニター/ポンプボタン等であった. 気管吸引を必要とする患者の療養環境の細菌検索から60検体中15検体(5.8%)からMRSA が検出された(リネン, 聴診器, ジャクソンリース, 人工呼吸器の消音ボタン). その中の2検体(0.8%)は, MRSA感染者ではない患者の療養環境からの検体であった.2008年度の計画と経過 : 本学と同程度の教育環境にあるイギリスの看護系大学を選定した後に訪問して, イギリスにおける看護基礎教育における感染看護の実態と教育教材の収集を行い効果的な感染看護の教育方法の示唆を得る. 2007年度に本学の教育をまとめたものを踏まえOxford Brookes大学を訪問し, 収集した資料をまとめ成果発表を行った.
