火山噴火や地震などに伴う自然災害を理解するために,従来蓄積してきた野外地質情報に加え,火山噴火や地層形成などのモデル実験,衛星画像のデジタル情報を視覚化した精密地形模型,浅海域微地形の超高精細解析図など新しい教材を開発した。これらの教材を地域の学校等と連携して学習活動を展開した結果,地域連携型の自然災害教育プログラムが博物館における新しい機能として有効であることが確認された。

Volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, natural disasters, geological information accumulation in the field, visualization of volcanic eruptions, formation of strata, satellite imagery, precision terrain models, ultra-fine analysis of shallow sea micro-topography, and development of new teaching materials. As a result of the development of teaching materials, regional schools, etc., and joint learning activities, regional joint education on natural disasters has become a new function of museums.
