緑色イオウ細菌反応中心の改変によるキノン分子の分光学的検出を試みた。キノン合成遺伝子menGの破壊株はすべてmerodiploidとなり、コアタンパクのキノン結合領域への変異導入株も得られなかった。光合成反応に必須である遺伝子への変異導入には特別な実験系の確立が必要である。ヘリオバクテリア反応中心のキノンAlの配向を調べたところ、よい相関性を示すシミュレーション結果が得られなかった。少なくともPSIや紅色細菌で得られているキノンの配向角度とは異なることは間違いないが、今後、さらなるデータの精密化とともに測定条件の検討が必要である。またキノン含量をHPLCにより解析したところ、反応中心あたり約1分子のメナキノン-9(MQ-9)の存在が明らかとなった。
