本研究は、貨幣のサーチ・モデルなどへの応用という形で、積分方程式の理論の経済モデルへの適用の可能性を模索したものであり、特に以下の点を明確にすることを目的としていた。すなわち、1.経済学の問題に特有な、あるいは標準的などのような構造が、実際に適用される際の積分方程式の作用素にどのような性質をもたらすのか、特に、2.基礎となる経済モデルのどのような性質から、対応する作用素に完全連続性の性質を保証することができるのか、また、どのような経済モデルの場合に、対応する積分方程式の作用素がエルミート写像、ユニタリー写像となるのか、3.経済モデルに対応する積分方程式で、固有値や固有関数の問題をどの程度、基礎となる経済モデルの構造に基づいて分析できるか、という点であった。しかし、そもそもこの研究のきっかけとなり、また、この研究プロジェクトの最初の課題でもあった貨幣のサーチ・モデルにおける均衡の不決定の問題の解決が、当初の見込み通りには進まず、遅れていたため、平成21年度もこの問題の解決に優先的に取り組むこととなった。特に、貨幣のサーチ・モデルにおいて、交換過程を通して貨幣量が変化しないという法則があるが、この法則や貨幣の中立性が、対応する積分方程式の作用素の固有値などにどのような性質をもたらすのかという問題について、集中的に取り組んだ。結果的に、サーチ・モデルにおいて、経済全体で集計されたレベルでの貨幣量保存の法則と貨幣の中立性とのみから均衡の不決定を説明することは困難であるという見通しが得られたが、代替的な説明の方法については決定的な成果を得られなかった。なお、この、貨幣のサーチ・モデルに関する研究の部分は、究極的には、従来のミクロ経済学の体系とマクロ経済学の体系との問の理論的な空隙を埋めることを目的とするものであり、特に経済の貨幣的現象に対する理解を大幅に推し進めることを意図したものである。
