Synthetic Studies on Tomb Figurines in the Sui and Tang Dynasties

本文对隋唐时期不同时期、不同地区的墓俑（Yong）的特点进行了探讨。它是基于对主要从年代久远的墓葬中出土的材料进行调查和拍摄而汇编的丰富数据。这一资源对于从艺术史的角度阐明年轻人物像的风格变迁和地域特征做出了显著的贡献，尤其是后者，因为它在过去没有受到太多的关注，这是一项重大的成就。从陶瓷史的角度出发，通过对当时的制作工艺和分配制度问题的厘清，为研究青少俑提出了新的可能性。

This study discusses the characteristics of tomb figurines(Yong) by period and region produced in the Sui and Tang dynasties. It is based on rich data compiled from investigation and photographing of the materials excavated mainly from dated tombs. The resource made a remarkable contribution to elucidating the stylistic transition and regional characteristics of the yong figurines from an art historical context, the latter in particular being a significant accomplishment since it had not been receiving much attention in the past. From the aspect of ceramic history, it proposed a new potential to the studies of yong figurines by clarifying the production techniques and the issue of distribution system at that time.
