研究計画時の結核患者5名、健常者5名にそれぞれ5名加えた10名ずつの検討では、全血を抗酸菌由来TLR2リガンド刺激後のTNF産生量は、LAMAoyama(10・g/nl):107.9±59.7vs.43.8±18.4,p=0.005,LAM MS:1338.7±642.8vs.682.4±295.3,p=0.009と結核患者で有意に高値であったのに対し、他のTLRリガンドであるPam3Cys、LPS、CpGオリゴでは有意差は認められなかった。また、結核治療によりTNFα値は低下した。このことから、結核患者では抗酸菌由来脂質抗原に対するTNFα産生能が亢進していることが示唆された。第51回ICAAC(2011年9月シカゴ、アメリカ)にて発表した。この応答が結核という疾患に特異的であるか確認するために、引き続き結核患者25名、細菌性肺炎6名、肺癌2名、間質性肺炎7名、非結核性抗酸菌症10名、その他の呼吸器疾患4名、健常者6名の60名を登録した。これらのうちの一部の患者検体でTNFα値の測定を行ったところ、肺癌患者では健常者と同程度であったが、非結核性抗酸菌症患者では高値を示した。同じ抗酸菌疾患症では結核と同様の振る舞いをしめし、これらの抗酸菌由来抗原に対する応答では疾患特異性は示せていないと考えられた。
