项目摘要

本研究は日本「本土」在住の奄美諸島出身者について、主に阪神大都市圏の近代工業化に伴う労働市場の拡大に呼応して流入してきた関西在住奄美出身者のコミュニティを対象とし、その定着過程について分析するものである。報告者は同郷団体の形成過程と役割に注目し、日本国内における周辺地域の出身者である研究対象のアイデンティティの変容について、ホスト社会からの他者視されるまなざしや出身地を取り巻く政治状況などから解明することを主要目的に設定し、調査・研究を実施した。具体的な調査としては、阪神大都市圏や岡山県で活動する複数の同郷団体活動への参与観察や、奄美出身者への聞き取り調査、そして沖縄県公文書館等での資料調査を行なった。本研究の成果は(1)紀要論文(関西学院大学人文学会紀要『人文論究』)、および(2)国際学会(国際歴史地理学会)での研究報告において発表した。前者の(1)紀要論文では、1960年代以降に神戸から倉敷へ再移住した沖永良部出身者の同郷団体を事例として、地域を越えた同郷者ネットワークの様態と地方出郷者の再移住過程を分析したものである。取り上げた事例から地方出郷者の移住に介在する要因として特定企業の縁故採用人員配置転換の存在が明らかになった。後者の(2)国際学会発表は、阪神地方における奄美諸島出身者の定着過程を、時系列的な同郷団体の機能の比較から分析することを目的として行なった。研究対象の政治的、文化的実践からは奄美出身者が日本「本土」の多数派社会や隣接する沖縄との関係性の中で揺れ動く動態性が明らかになった。以上の成果によって、国民国家の境界地出身者が時代ごとに外部からの社会的、経済的、政治的諸要因に影響を受けつつ、同時に地縁・血縁ネットワークといった内的要因にも左右されながら、自集団のアイデンティティや組織の機能を変容させていった過程が明らかになった。
