项目摘要

「ゴンドワナ大陸北岸における後期三畳紀環境変動イベントの解明」という研究課題に対し、今年度は8月15日〜9月16日の約一ヶ月間の海外での地質調査を行った。研究地域は、中部~上部三畳系がほぼ完全に露出し、すでに堆積相の検討や層序の編纂、化石を用いた時代決定のなされている、ネパール山間部である。現地では、野外調査の段階で主に、三畳紀後期におけるゴンドワナ北岸の堆積盆がどのような状態であったのかを把握するために、詳細な柱状図の作成を行い、堆積相の解析と、分析用の岩石試料の採取を行った。その後、岩石試料に対し、蛍光X線分析装置を用いた主要元素、微量元素濃度の測定、誘導結会プラズマ質量分析装置を用いたウラン、トリウム、レアアース元素濃度の測定を行った。ここでは、各元素の特微・挙動に基づき、環境指標となる各元素の相関図を作成し、海面表層や浅海域での海洋生産性、低層水・底質の酸化還元度を定量化し検討する。また、供給源岩の変動や化学風化度を見積もり、陸上域の変動を明らかにする。その結果、以下のことが分かった。ネパールのJomsom地域では、三畳紀後期Carnian初期に相当する層準において、石灰岩卓越層から頁岩層への明瞭な岩相変化が捉えられた。これはヨーロッパで知られている岩相変化イベント("Reingraben Event")に相当する可能性が考えられる。同層準では、底質の酸化還元状態の明瞭な変化は認められなかったが、古化学風化度の低下が認められた。従って、この岩相変化の要因として、後背地の気候変化や、地域的なテクトニクス、海水準変動などが影響している可能性がある。なお、三畳紀後期Norian初期には平行葉理の発達する黒色頁岩相がみられ、酸化還元指標により、還元的環境の存在が推定されたため、この時期の底質環境の変動が示唆される。なお、ネパールのManang地域では、現地調査段階における詳細な柱状図の作成と試料採取がなされている。
