今年度の課題は特に「19世紀中盤のパリにおけるユダヤ教改革運動」に限定し、国内の図書館に所蔵のない関連文献の収集及び、フランス国立図書館に所蔵されている雑誌Archives Israelitesの収集と分析を行った。1840年に創刊された雑誌Archives Israelitesには19世紀中盤に興隆し、フランス社会への集団的同化を問うたユダヤ教改革運動に関する同時代の論文、寄稿が収録されている。また、文献の中でもDictionnaire des rabbinsは19世紀の聖職者の概要が記されており、今後のプロソポグラフィ研究を進める上で有用である。これらの文献及び史料は、フランコ=ジュダイスムと呼ばれる、19世紀に始まったフランスのユダヤ教を特徴付ける同化主義を分析する上で欠かせない史料である。フランコ=ジュダイスムは近年ドイツのユダヤ教改革運動との比較も進められているが、共同体の改革に重きをおく点に特徴があり、筆者の研究も19世紀のユダヤ共同体の変化を同時代人がいかに論じたかという問題意識に立つ。中でもユダヤ長老会というフランス独自の国立のユダヤ教統率機関の役員に焦点を当て、この機関の議事録等の他の史料と合わせてみることで、長老会が進めた改革運動の特徴と、失敗に終わった原因を明らかに出来ると考える。10月からフランスに留学のため特別研究員を辞退するに至ったが、他の史料も加えた研究成果は今後論文として提出するつもりである。
