An Empirical Study on Raising the Public Consciousness in Contemporary Families

本研究旨在通过对日本兵库县神户和岛根县冲之的定性和定量研究，了解家庭和当地社区在提高公众意识方面的作用。每一项研究都提出了提高公众意识的假设，即：(1)在城市地区，更重要的是增加社区对儿童的教育力量，并在他们的家里管教他们，并参考旨在通过共同规则与多种价值观共存的“快乐”思想；(2)在农村，更重要的是以社区为荣，参考旨在与社区中的人团结的“社区”思想。

The purpose of this study is to see how families and local communities function on raising the public consciousness through the qualitative and quantitive research in Kobe, Hyogo prefecture and Oki, Shimane prefecture in Japan. Each research drew the hypotheses for raising the public consciousness, that is, (1) in urban areas, it is more important to increase the community's power of education to children as well as to discipline them well at their home, and to refer to the thought of "conviviality" which aims at the coexistence with various values through having the common rules, (2) in rural areas, it is more important to have the pride in their communities, and to refer to the thought of "communality" which aims at uniting with people in the community.
