T.S. Eliot's Poetic Drama and a Process to Revive the Community--Back and Forth between the Secular World and the Religious World--

I consider how closely T.S. Eliot's poetic drama, poetry and criticism correlate with each other. The theme of his poetry gradually shifts from the sterile urban world in his early poems to the religious world in his latter ones. His early poetic dramas were as religious as his last poems. But in his later dramas, Eliot comes back to the secular world and admits that a secular life is as important and good as a saint-like life.We can see the same shift of his sense of values in the correlation between his poetic drama and criticism. In his early view of community, Eliot valued the religious life above the secular life. But he gradually comes to recognize an invisible cordial interchange between the religious life and the secular life. For Eliot, a theatre was a significant place to show an ideal process to revive the community.
