The genus Acanthopagrus from the Indo-West Pacific (Pisces : Sparidae) was taxonomically reviewed because their congeners are important coastal fishes in fisheries and similar looking body with confused and different scientific names among different countries and FAo commented that the genus is also needed for taxonomical review. Although there are eight valid species in Acanthopagrus, 23 species including new species and resurrection are justified under Acanthopagrus and Sparidentex and the fomer include six similar species group.
