An Italian ryegrass variety "LNG5" accumulates nitrate-N at a very low level in shoot. Ability of nitrate-N uptake in root was similar between LNG5 and original population, but amount of transported nitrate-N from root to shoot was decreased in LNG5. Two genes whose expression were increased or decreased in LNG5 were isolated. SSR markers that polymorphism was found between LNG5 and WasehopeIII were identified.
