The study analyzed individual life-stories built up from interviews with patients who live with chronic illness and nurses(including diabetes, mental disease, and intractable neurological disease, et al.) to understand the "difficulties of telling" to others about chronic illness. The study suggests that there is the fact that some patients might find the difficulties of telling to others about their illness, because they are afraid of worrying others or are unable to find the right words. Nurses should catch the situation from such cues as facial expression, while nurses feel "difficulties of listening" to patients, and send words with meaning of living, and support of meeting persons who understand them.

该研究通过对慢性病患者和护士（包括糖尿病、精神疾病和顽固性神经疾病等）的访谈，分析了个人的生活故事，以了解向他人讲述慢性病的“困难”。研究表明，事实上，一些病人可能会觉得向别人诉说自己的病情很困难，因为他们害怕让别人担心，或者找不到合适的词语。护士要从面部表情等线索把握情况，而护士对病人有“听不懂”的感觉，发送有生活意义的话语，以及与理解他们的人见面的支持。
