This study investigates processes and problems of consensus-making in group discussion among Japanese undergraduate students, by applying discourse analytic approaches to video-recorded natural discussion data. Examining every detail that relates to the course of discussion, from the overall structures through which decisions were made, and verbal/non-verbal behavior of each participant, we identified three groups of problems that might hamper logical and smooth decision-making. The study further proposed a discussion-supporting tool for undergraduates with which they could learn how to build up their arguments step-by-step in order to reach a legitimate conclusion within a limited amount of time.

本研究以日本大学生为研究对象，通过对自然讨论的录像数据进行语篇分析，探讨了大学生群体讨论中达成共识的过程和问题。通过检查与讨论过程相关的每一个细节，从决策的整体结构，到每个参与者的语言/非语言行为，我们确定了三组可能妨碍逻辑和顺利决策的问题。该研究还为大学生提供了一个支持讨论的工具，使他们能够学习如何逐步建立自己的论点，以便在有限的时间内得出合理的结论。
