Education and the Idea of Development in Modern Japan

本研究的重点是“发展”的概念，以及它如何成为现代日本几个教育理论的核心。通过对《儿童研究》杂志的分析和该杂志主要作者藤川裕的思想，我们明确了在明治时期，在这一发展概念中不仅有教育的兴趣，还有医学和胚胎学的兴趣。山下德方在1934年对这个问题进行了辩论，他也对这个想法的原始甚至宗教意义进行了探讨。虽然在这一儿童研究领域有许多卓有成效的方法，但大多数教育学家很少采用这些方法。

This study focuses the concept of "development" and how it became central to several educational theories in modern Japan. Through the analysis of the Journal of Child Research and the thought of Fujikawa Yu, a main writer of the journal, we clarified that in Meiji period there were not only educational interests, but also medical and embryological ones in this concept of development. Yamashita Tokuji, who took a polemic on this issue in 1934, also inquired into primitive and even religious meanings to this idea. While there were fruitful approaches in this field of child research, they were hardly pursued by the majority of educationalists.
