The possibilities of Improvisation in Contemporary Music and TheUse of Such Improvisation in Music Education

This research treats the field of improvisation in classicalmusic. It suggests how methods of improvisation may be used in today's music education.I have investigated improvisatory practices during the baroque and classical periods,eras in which it was considered entirely normal, and have gathered materials regardingthe pedagogy of improvisation. By actually performing such improvisation I havediscovered three things:1) it is possible today to use examples from the teaching of improvisation of earlierperiods;2) it is very useful to employ such simple musical material to heighten the desire forexpression in improvisatory performance;3) it is necessary for those who wish to become educators today to possess an abilityin the practical application of improvisatory skills in performance.
