Canine distemper virus(CDV) has been spreading among Japanese wild mammals. Our results indicated that raccoon, raccoon dog, badger, masked palm civet, martens, fox, tiger, lion, sika deer, wild boar and bear had been infected with CDV in Japan. Furthermore, a novel genotype of CDV was isolated from domestic wild mammals. In addition, we succeeded in establishment of experimental model using dogs and this challenge model seems to be useful for analysis of pathogenesis of CDV.
