Risk factors of depression among the community-dwelling elderly and a longitudinal study of intervention effects by group work

We clarified that lower intellectual activity, poor ability of communication, historyof fall, poor exercise habits and eating alone are the risk factors of depression amongthe community-dwelling elderly. Further, 15-item geriatric depression scale predicts8-year mortality in older Japanese. Although intervention program for depression suchas reminiscence and exercise did not show statistically significant effect, theproportion of depressive elderly was slightly declined.
