1 昨年度に引き続き、カタログを用いてケルトのコインの図像分析を進めた。使用したカタログはKent, J. et al.(ed.),Catalogue of the Celtic Coins in the British Museum 3vols., London, 1987-1995, Castelin, K.(ed.), Keltische Munzen. Katalog der Sammlung des Schweizerischen Landesmuseums Zurich 2vols., Zurich, 1978, Demdski, G.(ed.), Munzen der Kelten (Sammlungskataloge des Kunsthistorischen Museums 1, Kataloge der antiken Munzen Reihe A: Griechen II: Massalia und Keltenstamme),Wien,1998などである。2 昨年度に引き続き、コインの図像分析から得られた情報とギリシア・ローマの古典文献及びラテン碑文、ケルト語碑文などの文字史料との比較検証を進めた。特にカエサルの『ガリア戦記』やリウィウスの『ローマ史』などの文献史料、ガリア・ルグドゥネンシス及びガリア・ナルボネンシス出土のラテン語碑文との比較を中心に、ガリアのケルト文化について、その実態と特質を考察した。3 コイン以外のケルトの図像史料についても研究を進めた。具体的にはガリア・ルグドゥネンシスのモザイクとトゥール出土の石彫を中心に検討を行い、古代ケルト人の職人について、その実情を検証・考察した。上記の成果は、従来の研究では不分明であった点を明らかにし、古代ケルト社会の研究進展に寄与するところがあった。
