昨年度にひきつづき、十七世紀初頭に活躍した絵師、俵屋宗達の主要作品を分析対象とした。本年度の成果の一部は「宗達筆「源氏物語関屋・澪標図屏風」の造形手法」として『東京藝術大学美術学部論叢』7号(2011年刊行予定)に掲載される。「源氏物語関屋・澪図屏風」(静嘉堂文庫美術館蔵)は古典物語を主題とする金地大画面作品として重要な作例であり、もと伝来した醍醐寺に関わる資料が発見されたことで制作年や注文主がほぼ特定され、近年注目を集めている。本研究では、源氏絵および物語の舞台となった住吉を描く関連作例が相次いで紹介されていることをうけ、主に造形面から作品に考察を加えた。論点はモチーフの配置方法、背景の設定、両隻で相似形となる構図であり、相似形の構図が左右隻の入れ替えを可能としていることを指摘した。すなわち物語の順では「関屋図」が右に位置するが、これまで図版掲載や展覧会では左に置かれることが多かったのである。その理由と、どちらの配置をも想定させる造形要素について論じ、宗達の機知的な表現手法を浮き彫りにした。本年度はさらに、昨年調査を行った宗達筆「雲龍図屏風」(フリーア美術館蔵)を中心に、宗達と他の琳派の絵師による水墨画について、「たらしこみ」技法を軸とする分析をすすめた。主に用語が近代以降に定着する様相、技法成立に関する諸説の分析、宗達活躍期とそれ以後の用法の違いについて、現在論考をまとめている。
