意思決定する時には選択肢の価値を比較する必要がある。その際に必要となるのが割引率である。割引率は経済学や心理学をはじめとして多くの分野で研究がおこなわれてきた。そして、条件や環境によって割引率のばらつきがあることが知られている。そこで本研究では、そのバラつきのメカニズムを検証した。異時点間に関して、実際に謝金を受け取れる実験と受け取れないアンケート調査をおこなった。先行研究とあまり違いがないように、金額を設定した。具体的には数千円程度の報酬を最長2ヶ月後に現金書留で受け取れる。このような短期かつ少額の報酬では、金利の影響はほとんど考えられない。つまり、あまり割り引かれるはずがない。そこで被験者が遅延報酬を受け取るときにコストが発生すると考えて、割引率だけでなく受取コストを含めたモデルで割引率を推定した。その結果、割引率の分散よりも受取コストの分散が大きいという結果が見られた。つまり、短期少額報酬の異時点間選択での割引率はおおよそ安定していることがわかった。それに加えて、これまでの研究で分散していた割引率の原因が、受取コストの個人差にあることを示唆する。当該年度はこの結果をIntemational Economic Association 16th World Congress(IEA2011)で報告した。現在、そのコメントを反映させた原稿を執筆している。fMRI実験では、今すぐ受け取れる報酬を選択するときと将来受け取れる報酬を選択するときでは賦活領域が異なることを確認した。さらに昨年度よりも進展した点として、パラメトリックに分析した点が挙げられる。今すぐ受け取れる報酬を選択した程度(大きいと衝動的[=割引率大]、小さいと忍耐的[=割引率小])と比例する領域(左外側 PFC、海馬傍回皮質)を見つけたことである。この結果は会議等で報告し、現在まとめているところである。
