給水パターンと栄養塩量の相互作用が草本植物の群集構造決定に果たす機能の解明のために、申請計画上の課題3.群集構造に与える影響を検討した。課題3では、給水パターン、栄養塩量、密度の3要因を設定する栽培実験をおこなった。科研費によって特注した、実験処理に適した栽培容器を用いた。シロツメクサ、ヘラオオバコ、ハコベ、ギョウギシバ、ホソムギの5種を材料とし、要因に対する群集構造の変化を解析した。その結果、高密度の群集は、富栄養では高頻度給水で5種の現存量が均等で、低頻度給水より均等度が高かった。貧栄養では低頻度給水で均等度が高かった。低密度の群集では水不均質性の均等度に対する影響は認められなかった。給水パターンは群集構造に影響し、その影響は密度・栄養塩量との相互作用によって変化することが示唆された。この結果は、英語論文としてまとめ、助成により英文校閲を受け、現在投稿準備中である。また、2011年度の生態学会において発表し、ポスター発表優秀賞を受賞した。加えて、2010年度に検討した課題1.植物個体群に与える影響の種間差異、課題2.植物種間競争に与える影響について、英語論文を作成した。課題1については学術誌Journal of Plant Researchで発表した。課題2については現在投稿準備中である。
