项目摘要

本研究の目的は、インド西部タール沙漠エリアに広がる「トライブ」ビール社会を対象とし、同地域の近代化に伴う社会空間の変容過程を、生計実践と信仰に関連する実証的データを通して明らかにすることにある。本研究の2年次に当たる本年度は、1年次に行われたフィールドワークの成果及び得られた資料の精査・データベース化、最終的な成果報告(民族誌の執筆・出版)へと向けた準備を中心とする活動を行った。当研究領域に関連する書籍や資料の精読を通じた理論的枠組みの先鋭化、他研究者との交流・議論を通じた本研究の実践的手法の再検討、現地における資料収集のための様々なスキル(ヒンディー語・ラージャスターニー語など、現地において利用される言語の語学能力、映像資料の撮影能力、各種芸能や語り等を採録する録音技術など)の向上、フィールドワークや資料収集/整理、データベース化等を行うための機材購入なども、初年度に引き続き行われた。年度末には、来年度に予定されていた本格的なフィールド調査を前提とした、1ヶ月弱の調査が行われた。本調査は、調査対象であるビール社会のインフォーマントたちとの関係維持のための交流はもとより、ビール社会と他の「カースト」社会とのネットワークやその構築される関係性の広がりの動態を示す社会空間を明確にすることを目的としたため、採石産業に関わる多様な社会集団、ビール社会へ儀礼的なサービスを遂行するムスリム芸能集団、依然として社会的な支配層に位置するラージプート社会等へのインタビュー調査を敢行した。これら生計実践や宗教実践を通じて顕在化する多様な社会関係をめぐる微視的な調査は、これまでインド社会研究において重要な分析枠組となってきたトライブ/カーストという二分法的思考が取りこぼしてきた、彼らの柔軟な社会的ネットワークの拡大や形成過程を明確にするものである。そこでは、単純にヒエラルキーや権力関係に回収することのできない、その都度の文脈に応じて変転する対話的関係の動態が存在し、人々は重層的なポジショナリティを横断的に生きていることが明らかになってきている。
