项目摘要

本研究は、掛幅縁起絵や参詣曼荼羅、御伽草子絵巻といった縁起や物語説話を背景とした作品群について、<景観表象>という観点から再検討を行い、中世説話世界と作品ジャンルを超えた包括的な絵画の構造化について考察することが目的である。初年度は次の通り研究を進めた。1「清水寺参詣曼荼羅」に関するこれまでの研究を論文発表する。2掛幅縁起絵のうち、「山崎架橋図」(和泉市久保惣記念美術館蔵)の作品研究に取り組む。3御伽草子絵巻ならびに洛中洛外図や洛外図に関して、随時調査を行い、研究準備を進める。以下、各課題の進捗状況を報告する。1「清水寺参詣曼荼羅」については、美術史学会での発表(東支部例会、2005.11)とパリ第七大学で開催された「中世日本の信仰と芸術文化」シンポジウムにおける発表(2008.3)を踏まえ、二つの論文にまとめた。2「山崎架橋図」については、9月に作品の実見調査を行った。また、描かれた景観の体感的把握、絵画と実景の差異を確認するために、宝積寺と石清水八幡宮周辺の現地踏査も実施した。宝積寺の縁起において、本尊の化身である老翁が山崎の橋をかけたのは一夏の出来事であったとされる一方、「山崎架橋図」については、宝積寺の春景と、男山の秋景という二景の表出が指摘されてきた。今回の調査では、山崎橋の架かる川辺部分に緑青によって水田が表されていることが確認でき、本図には、春と秋の二景によって夏景を示唆するのではなく、上方から順次季節を変化させ、夏そのものも表象化する意図が認められた。本図に関しては今後考察を深め研究成果公開の機会を準備したい。3参詣曼荼羅の展開を議論する上で洛中洛外図や洛外図との関係は欠かせない。当時、洛中と洛外がどのように眺められていたのかという論点に関して、『経覚私要鈔』に新たな記事を知り得たことから、洛中洛外図の成立前史についても論稿をまとめた(『中世絵画と信仰世界』青簡舎、2010.6刊行予定)。
