Towards Sustainable Land Use in Asia (SLUAS)

Integrated study on Sustainable Land Use in Asia (SLUAS) has been conducted in a number of places in Asia, namely in Japan, China, India, Fareast Russia, Philippines, Thai, Indonesia, and Myanmar, and land-use change data files with large amount of digital map data and geo-referenced photographs have been produced and used to identify the state and change of land use and the existing problems. The results of the study have been reported in SLUAS Science Report (I)-(V) and many other journals and publications. SLUAS has also been involved in many meetings including those of International Geographical Union, Japan Geoscience Union and Science Council of Japan, contributing greatly to enhancement of understanding in sustainable land use. SLUAS also contributed to some proposals of Science Council of Japan on the Great East Japan Disaster, in which sustainability of land use is a major issue.
