Systems to efficiently analyze gene function in insects were developed. Site-specific recombination works in silkworm and the system was found to be applicable for the clonal analysis and enhancer trapping. Gene editing utilizing artificial nucleases becomes possible. A promoter of baculovirus promoted expression of transgenes in some species belonging to different orders suggesting its utility across the insects.
