Citizenship Education and Democracy in the Liberal Reform: John Dewey's Theory of Schools and Its Practice

本研究旨在厘清杜威的公民教育理论与实践，并以20世纪20、30年代古典自由主义的重建与重新定义为重点，设计以民主与公共性原则为基础的学校革新愿景。本文分析了在自由主义从自由放任向福利国家转变的过程中，杜威的公民权和民主教育理论与实践是如何发展的。我的结论是，杜威的观点与占主导地位的自由主义完全不同，因为他强调在学校建立社区的重要性。

The aim of this study is to clarify John Dewey’s theory and practice of citizenship education and to design the vision of innovative school reforms based on the principle of democracy and publicness by focusing on the reconstruction and redefinition of classical liberalism in the 1920s and 30s. I analyzed how Dewey’s theory and practice of citizenship and democratic education had developed during the shifting period of liberalism from laissez-faire to welfare-state. I concluded that Dewey’s perspective was completely different from the dominant liberalism in that he emphasized the importance of building communities in schools.
