本研究は、日本語学習者の日本語の長短母音の知覚を「持続時間」と「ピッチ」のキュー使用という観点から記述し、第二言語音声知覚への「母語の影響」と「普遍的側面」を解明することを目的とする。本年度は、日本語母語話者と日本語学習者(持続時間群:フィンランド、英、露、仏語母語話者、ピッチ群:中国、韓国、英、仏語母語話者)に対し長短同定の知覚実験を行った。実験0は自然音声、実験1～4は編集音声を用いた。実験0では、フィンランド語母語以外の学習者の正答率が日本語母語話者より有意に低く、話速の影響があることがわかった。また、ピッチが低い場合に比べピッチが高い長母音の同定正答率が高いこともわかった。そこで、まず、母語の語レベルにおいて持続時間の役割が異なる持続時間群対象に、範疇知覚の有無(実験1)と話速の影響(実験2)を調べた。持続時間が弁別的なキューであるフィンランド母語話者の境界値、境界幅、話速の影響が日本語母語話者と同様なのに対し、他の言語の母語話者の境界幅は有意に大きく、話速の影響は日本語母語話者とは異なっていた。また、母語の語レベルでピッチの役割が異なるピッチ群対象に、ピッチの高低の影響(実験3)、音節内ピッチ下降の影響(実験4)を調べた。ピッチの高低は韓国語、フランス語母語話者に影響したが、その影響は対照的だった。音節内ピッチ下降の影響は、中国語、フランス語の母語話者と日本語母語話者では似ているが、英語と韓国母語話者は異なった。これらの結果は、現在提案されているいずれの第二言語音声知覚モデルや仮説も支持しない。現在、モデルや仮説の組み合わせによる説明可能性を検討している。母語の影響の議論には、複数の母語話者対象に同一の調査が必要だが、これまでほとんどなされてきていない。したがって、本研究が完成した際の第二言語音声知覚のメカニズムの理解に対する貢献度は高いと考えられる。
