项目摘要

本年度は助成期間の最終年度としてこれまでの研究をさらに進めて一つの区切りを付けること、そして今後の研究につながる議論の萌芽を見出すことの二点を課題として研究を遂行した。一点目については、大きな課題であった博士論文をドイツ・トリーア大学(Universitat Trier)に提出できた。「研究の目的」のテーマ1《修道院とロタリンギア社会の相互関係》にしたがい、トリーア大司教区にあるシトー会修道院オルヴァル(Orval)とヒメロート(Himmerod)の保護体制を比較研究したこの論文は、修道院保護体制を修道士と保護権者の法的関係からのみ考察してきたこれまでの研究動向を批判的にとらえ、保護の確かさ/不確かさを、修道院の世俗社会に対して果たした宗教的・社会的・経済的役割と関連させて理解した。その結果、12-13世紀中葉の修道院は、成長段階にある領邦君主とその影響圏にある中小貴族の家門形成に対し「記憶memoria」保持・継承の点から多大な貢献を行い、その見返りとして保護を享受していたことが分かった。しかしそれ以降土地支配権に基盤をおく貴族層から大規模な寄進が受けられなくなると、修道院は都市民を含む多様な社会層との関係を深めることにより、社会の中に確たる足場を設けていったことが明らかになった。この13世紀後半以降のシトー会修道院の動向は、従来教会史の立場からシトー修道制の退廃として理解されてきた。しかし、近代にまで引き継がれる中世ヨーロッパ社会の確立にとって、シトー会修道院が果たした役割はもっとポジティヴに評価されるべきとの結論に達した。この博士論文は最高評点(summa cum laude)を獲得し、またその一部は日本語論文として『法制史研究』に掲載された。課題の二点目にづいては、「研究目的」のテーマ2《教会法における修道制》に関連し、ロタリンギアのシトー会修道院と小教区教会の関係について研究を進めた。これらの成果の一部は早急に日本語論文としてまとめ、国際学会で発表したい。
