西洋中世において文献伝承に携わった人々の精神的境位を、文献伝承史および概念受容史のレベルで具体的に捉えることが本研究の目的であった。プラトン/アリストテレス的な古代哲学の枠組みは,キリスト教中世において基本的に継承されつつも,その神学体系の中で様々な変容を被り多様な展開を遂げることになる。研究分担者桑原はこの間の経緯を明らかにした。また秋山は著書『教父と古典解釈』において、教父時代における異文化理解のあり方が、後のヒューマニストたちの古典理解を基本的に準備したばかりでなく、その間の修道士たちの文献伝承筆写作業の実際をも規定したことを実証的に記述した。キリスト教東西の修道制の父と仰がれる大バシレイオス,東方修道制の今日に至る基礎を築いたストゥディオスのテオドロス,西方修道制の霊的父たるアウグスティヌス,同じく西方修道制の礎を据えたヌルシアのベネディクトゥス,また12世紀ルネッサンスの展開の中で修道制の霊的刷新に努めた人々,そして学究的托鉢修道会を設立して現在に至る修道霊性を拓いたドミニコなどは,上記の修道的文化伝承者として挙げられよう。彼らは,修道霊性の理解において種々多様な展開を見せながらも,いずれも地中海文化に端を発する古典古代文化の教養を破棄することなく,福音書朗読と詩編唱和より成る聖務日課を基軸とした日々の霊的歩みの中に,古典古代作品の筆写作業や,古代哲学の著作をテキストとする観想的学究活動などを採り入れ,哲学史・文化史にも名を残す人々となったのである。古代・中世思想文化を集大成したトマス・アクィナスの学術活動も,本質的にはドミニコ会士としての彼のあり方に支えられている。

The purpose of this study is to explore the relationship between Chinese literature and Western culture, and to explore the relationship between Chinese literature and Western culture.
