项目摘要

当該年度は主として次の3点について明らかにした。1.大村藩における剣術流派の改変について、2.幕末期の剣術家・斎藤新太郎の廻国修行と大村藩の関係について、3.幕末期大村藩の西洋軍事訓練の導入過程と武術についてである。1は昨年度から継続して実施されたものであり、大村藩が江戸の斎藤歓之助を招聘し剣術流派を改変した点で他藩にみられない特異な事例が示され、地方の取り組みとして注目された。2では江戸練兵館の斎藤新太郎が弘化4年から嘉永2年にかけて諸国を修行し、その一端として嘉永2年5月に大村藩を訪問したこと、またこの修行で新太郎と試合を行ったとみられる大村藩士名について、『脩行中諸藩芳名録』(氷見市教育委員会生涯学習課所蔵)を用いて明らかにした。その上で、1の流派改変が江戸練兵館の斎藤新太郎の廻国修行を契機として行われたことを指摘している。そして、3では昨年度までに明らかにしている大村藩における元治元年の藩校改革や1の剣術流派改変を踏まえながら、西洋軍事訓練の導入過程に対して、大村藩における武術がいかに位置づけられるのかについて、『九葉實録』を用いて明らかにした。昨年度までの研究成果と1～3の研究成果をまとめ、博士論文を執筆した。幕末期の大村藩は西洋軍事技術の輸入について情報を得ており、西洋軍事訓練を導入しながらも、剣術流派を改変し藩校において剣術、槍術、馬術を重視して武術を振興したことが明らかになった。当該研究は、幕末期に西洋の軍事訓練を導入しながらも、その一方で武術が重要視されたことについて、大村藩の一次史料を用いて実証した点で重要かつ意義のある研究である。当該研究は、平成23年度鹿屋体育大学において、博士(体育学)を授与された。
