This research investigated how adaptively English has changed in its history on the basis of its syntactic change. Specifically, dealing with the development of conjunctions, the rise of complementizer that, the change of structural licensing in the Double Object Construction and the development of a monoclausal structure of cleft constructions, I demonstrated how closely these linguistic phenomena were related. In addition, I proposed the possibility of recapturing these phenomena as the microevolutionof language.

本研究从句法变化的角度探讨了英语在其历史发展过程中的顺应性变化。具体来说，通过对连词的发展、补语that的兴起、双宾结构中结构许可的变化以及分裂结构中单音节结构的发展等语言现象的分析，论证了这些语言现象之间的密切联系。此外，我还提出了将这些现象重新描述为语言微观进化的可能性。
