The purposes of this research are 1) to review studies on plagiarism and textual borrowing conducted in English-speaking countries and 2)to propose how to teach English citation rules and writing to Japanese college students. The findings from this research will be published in a book entitled Citation rules in English writing: Teaching students how to avoid plagiarism, published by Kenkyusha, in June 2013. The book describes how citation rules and plagiarism have been perceived and discussed in English-speaking academic societies, and proposes ways to teach Japanese graduate and undergraduate students how to avoid plagiarism

本研究的目的是：1）回顾英语国家关于剽窃和语篇借用的研究; 2）提出如何向日本大学生教授英语引用规则和写作。这项研究的结果将在2013年6月由Kenkyusha出版的一本名为《英语写作中的引用规则：教学生如何避免剽窃》的书中发表。这本书描述了引用规则和剽窃是如何在英语学术团体中被感知和讨论的，并提出了教日本研究生和本科生如何避免剽窃的方法
