The purpose of this program of research is to search for reading practices which are likely to promote EFL learners' writing ability. A checklist was created by synthesizing and concretizing reading practices which were found promising in previous research The effectiveness of the checklist was investigated by an experiment and classroom research. The results suggest that a reading practice using the checklist promotes students' learning about writing and improves their writing performance both under experimental and normal school conditions.
