项目摘要

本年度の課題は、第一に、「台湾鉄道貨物統計のデータベース」を完成させること、第二に、中国において戦時期の鉄道統計資料を発掘することであった。しかし、本年度中の日中間の一連の政治的情勢を鑑み、第二の課題はやむなく断念することとなった。代わりに、第三の課題として、植民地朝鮮の石炭消費に関する研究を行った。第一の課題について。昨年度より引き続き台湾鉄道貨物輸送データベースの構築を行った。想定よりも多くの統計入力が必要であったため、上記年度全てにわたる「全駅・全貨物発着データ」の入力までは終えられなかったが、当該期間中の貨物輸送量データおよび代表年度「全駅・全貨物発着データ」の入力は完成した。このデータベースと、博士課程在籍中に作成した朝鮮のデータベースは、20世紀前半期東アジアの基礎的な流通統計として極めて価値のあるものであると自負している。将来的に公開することを考えており、当面はこれらを利用した分析および成果の公表を行っていく予定である。第三の課題について。既に「穀物」「綿布」という人々の生活(衣・食)に深くかかわる最終消費財の流通・消費の変容に関する研究をおこなっていたが、それに加え「住」にかかわる消費財として「石炭」を選び、その消費動向と流通について研究を行った。これは植民地期を通じて朝鮮の石炭消費が急激に増加することが、一方では「工業化」にともなう動力源として、他方では冬季の暖房燃料として消費が増加している点に着目したものである。鉄道統計等から、石炭の暖房燃料としての需要が高まっていること、そしてそれがとくに1920年代後半から朝鮮半島北部で採掘されるようになった朝鮮有煙炭の朝鮮内消費によって実現されていたという分析結果を得た。急遽変更・計画した研究であったためにまだ分析が不十分な点も残されているが、今後、同課題で研究を続け、活字として成果を公表できる目途は立ったと考えている。
