昨年23年度の基礎的な概念の資料収集と調査の結果、本研究を進めるにあたって、レアリスムの成立と批判がどのようになされたのかを明らかにすることが、重要かつ本質的な作業となるという見通しを得た。つまり、個々の作品における登場人物のあり方は、その作品がレアリスム的な美学(現実の再現を目指す美学)に対して、どのような立場をとるかと密接な関係があるのである。昨年得られたこのような展望のもと、今年24年度は、(A)レアリスムに最初に反旗を翻した流派とされる象徴主義について集中的に研究し、その成果を発表した。また同時並行で、(B)現在の日本のサブカルチャーにおけるキャラクターと20世紀初頭に生まれた無性格な登場人物の関係を研究し、これについても成果を論文にまとめた。さらに、(C)本研究の端緒になっている博‡論文を書籍の形にまとめ、出版する作業も行った。(A)象徴主義の研究については、文学者であり美術批評家でもあるアルベール・オーリエの絵画論に注目し、オーリエがどのような点でレアリスムを批判し、それに代わる絵画のあり方としてどのような絵画を象徴主義の名の下に提唱したのかを明らかにした。(B)については、日本の現代のサブカルチャーにおけるさまざまなキャラクター論が、共通して自然主義的なレアリスみを批判している一方で、それらが依拠する新たなレアリスムのタイプが、相互に異なっていることを明らかにし、その上で、これを20世紀初頭のフランスにおける自然主義的レアリスム批判の文脈と引き比べた。(C)については、本研究のキャラクターという視点を得る端緒となった博士論文「ポール・ヴァレリーにおける作品の位置づけと身体観」を、加筆の上『ヴァレリーの芸術哲学、あるいは身体の解剖』という書籍にまとめた。
