"Kawaii" is one of the most popular words in contemporary Japan and is often recognized as representative of Japanese pop culture. Based on the idea that "kawaii" is an emotion, rather than an attribute of a certain object, this study investigated the characteristics and functions of the "kawaii" emotion through surveys and laboratory experiments. The results show that "kawaii" is a socially oriented positive emotion related to the approach motivation of watching for and staying with preferable persons and objects and that it exerts a wide influence on subjective feelings, physiology, and behavior.

“Kawaii”是当代日本最流行的词汇之一，通常被认为是日本流行文化的代表。基于“卡哇伊”是一种情绪而不是某种事物的属性的观点，本研究通过问卷调查和实验室实验，探讨了“卡哇伊”情绪的特征和功能。结果表明，“卡哇伊”是一种社会导向的积极情绪，与关注和停留在更好的人和物体的接近动机有关，它对主观感受、生理和行为产生广泛的影响。
