the syntax of embedded structures

本研究旨在探索句法-语用界面，特别是直接引语(DQ)和自由间接引语(FIS)中的嵌入结构。更具体地说，DQS和FIS与假设选择的矩阵动词或包含这些动词的矩阵谓词没有选择关系。换句话说，DQ和FIS都是句法附加语。它们可以通过“裸嵌”的句法操作嵌入到补语句中，从而在补语句中产生一种不同于母体动词或谓词的言外之力。

This research aims at exploring a syntax-pragmatics interface, focusing in particular on the embedded structures in direct quotes(DQ) and free indirect speech (FIS). More specifically, DQs and FIS have no selectional relations with the putatively selecting matrix verbs or matrix predicates which include the verbs. In other words, DQs and FIS are syntactic adjuncts. They can be embedded by a syntactic operation "bare-embedding" in such a way to create a different illocutionary force in the complement sentences from that of matrix verbs or predicates.
