Pertussis, measles and rubella are vaccine-preventable diseases and patients under 10 years old have decreased in Japan according to the spread of vaccination for children. However, we recently encountered outbreaks of these diseases among adolescents and adults. To investigate the outbreaks, the serum IgG levels against the diseases among students in a medical school were examined by using EIA. The percentages of the subjects that did not reach the disease preventable IgG level for medical staff against pertussis, measles and rubella were 28.3%, 55.6% and 27.5%, respectively. These high percentages of un- or under-immunized students will be a potential risk for outbreaks of the diseases in future. Active promotion of vaccination against vaccine-preventable diseases should be highly recommended to the under-immunized adolescents and adults as well as un-immunized infants.

百日咳、麻疹和风疹是疫苗可预防的疾病，随着儿童疫苗接种的普及，日本10岁以下的患者有所减少。然而，我们最近在青少年和成年人中发现了这些疾病的爆发。为调查某医学院学生暴发疫情，采用酶免疫法（EIA）检测了学生血清中的IgG抗体水平。医务人员百日咳、麻疹、风疹IgG抗体未达到可预防性水平的比例分别为28.3%、55.6%和27.5%。未接种疫苗或接种不足的学生比例很高，这将是今后爆发疾病的潜在风险。应积极向未接种疫苗的青少年和成年人以及未接种疫苗的婴儿推广疫苗接种，以预防疫苗可预防的疾病。
