To evaluated the racial difference of sleep disordered breathing, sleep apnea syndrome screening test, blood-pressure measurement, and the Japanese version Harvard University sleep questionnaire were performed among 29 Japanese (31% males, mean age 70) living in Honolulu.An average 3%ODI values were 20% for males and 13% for females. Significant associations were found between hyoid-mental distance and severity of sleep disordered breathing as well as heart rate before and after sleeping.Those who were suspected to suffer from SAS were patients under treatment or naysayers. A major reason for refusing treatment was a high medical costs and examination fees.
