An Experimental Study on Development of Cultured Epithelial Grafting Sheets with Amnion and Oral Epithelial Cells

The aim of this study was to assess the possibility of human oral mucosal epithelial cells on hyper-dry-amnion (cultured sheets) can be used as new source for culturing stratified epithelium sheets. Cultured sheets had a well-stratified epithelial layer similar to that of uncultured mucosa. Immunohistochemistry, cultured sheets consisted of highly-active proliferating cells and undifferentiated cells, and had a barrier function. These results suggested that the cultured sheets may be a promising for the development of stratified epithelium sheets. These cultured sheets may be clinically applicable in not only dental treatment but also broad fields including the treatment of burns etc.
