研究期間の最後に、研究成果を論文にまとめることができ、Firenze University Press(フィレンツェ大学出版会)が出版するFlorientalia(東アジア研究叢書)のモノグラフとして公刊されることになった。タイトルはHeian court poetry as World Literature : from the point of view of early Italian poetry全400頁の英語の論文である。この論文はFlorientaliaのeditorial boardによる査読(peer review)を受けて高く評価された。書籍としての印刷版にデジタル版をも加え、Web上で世界中に発信されるので、注目されることを期待している。論文の内容は、9世紀前半の嵯峨朝の漢詩と9世紀末～10世紀初頭の宇多・醍醐朝における和歌という平安朝の宮廷詩歌と、13世紀イタリアのフレデリック二世の宮廷におけるシチリア派の詩とを、両者の基盤となっている政治社会的・文化的な環境の共通点と相違点を明らかにしながら比較したもので、宮廷文学としての詩歌の表現の様式化の諸相、俗語文学が新しいカノンとして定着する過程、恋愛詩と宮廷統治との関係、などが主要な論点である。この研究は、直接的な交渉や影響関係のまったくない日本古典文学とイタリア古典文学との間においても、政治社会的・文化的な環境の共通点と相違点に留意すれば、じゅうぶんに意味のある比較が成り立つのみならず、文学の普遍性に関するまことに興味深い知見が得られることを明らかにし、近年、Damrosh氏やDenecke氏らによって提唱されているWorld Literature(世界文学)という新しい研究領域にも貢献できたと自負する。また英語で公刊されることで、日本語・イタリア語が読めない諸国の人文学者たちにperifepheryとされてしまいがちな初期イタリア文学と初期平安文学について、それぞれの最新の先行研究の成果をも盛り込んで紹介し、両者が世界文学の豊かな遺産であることを伝えることができると思う。
