项目摘要

平成25年度は、マインツのペーター・シェーファーの印刷所より出版された2部の挿絵入り本草書(1484年出版『ラテン語本草書』と1485年出版『健康の庭』)の図版の分析と制作過程の解明を進めた。これら2部は、同印刷所が初めて木版画を多用して印刷した作品であるのみならず、本格的な図版入り印刷本草書としてはヨーロッパ最初期のものである点で、重視すべき研究対象である。当年度は、本調査対象の基礎研究を中心に行った。まず年度前半に、国内で手に入る二次資料を用いた基礎調査を行った。さらに、8月と11月の2度にわたって渡独し、一次資料や、国内で手に入らない二次資料の調査を行った。現地では、マインツのグーテンベルク博物館付属図書館、ベルリン州立図書館、フランクフルト大学図書館で、それぞれ『ラテン語本草書』、『健康の庭』など、複数の一次資料や、貴重な二次資料などを調査した。この実地調査により、挿絵の彩色の特徴や、挿絵を担当した画家に関する知見を広めることができたほか、『ラテン語本草書』の編纂者特定につながり得る貴重な情報を得ることができた。また、ベルリン州立図書館の研究員との面会が実現し、研究に関する情報交換を行った。本研究でこれまでに挙げた成果については、まず11月に、マールブルク大学美術研究所主催の学会Nraturwissenschaft und Illustrationen im 15. und 16. Jahrhundertにて発表を行った。そこで得られたフィードバックをもとに、12月には慶應義塾大学主催の国際シンポジウム「写本および初期刊本におけるテクストと挿絵―比較研究の試み―」でも研究発表を行った。
