本研究計画「社会的意思決定の計算論的モデル確立と脳神経メカニズムの解明」では, (1)ヒトはどのように社会環境を学習するのか? (2)与えられた環境下で, ヒトはどのように社会的意思決定(他者との協力や裏切り)を行うのか? の解明が大きな柱になっている.研究テーマ(1)ヒトが「(重要な社会環境の一つである)他人の選好」をどのように学習するのか? というテーマでプロジェクトを行った. 本プロジェクトは, 筆者がカリフォルニア工科大学に滞在し同大学のJohn O'Doherty教授, Peter Bossaerts教授と共同で行い, 以下の事柄を明らかにした :・被験者は「自分自身の選好」, 「他者の過去の行動」, 「(経験を通じて学習した)他者の選好」の全てを考慮して意思決定を行っている.・意思決定を行う際, 「自分自身の選好」は(過去の研究と同様に)前頭葉内腹側部で処理されている. 一方, 「他者の過去の行動」は側頭/頭頂連結部で, 「他者の選好」は後部頭頂葉で保持されている.・他者の選好に関する学習信号(予測誤差)は後部頭頂葉で処理されている.研究テーマ(2)「自分にとっては損になると思われるような利他的協力行動がなぜ進化したのか?」という問題意識で研究プロジェクトを行った. 具体的には, コンピュータ・シミュレーションを用いて「各個体が自由に動き回るとき, 協力者が裏切り者から逃れ, 協力者同士で固まることができ, 結果的に協力が進化し得る. また, 裏切り者と協力者の追いかけ合いのような興味深い現象が観察される」ことを明らかにした. 本研究は阿南高専の一ノ瀬元喜助教との共同研究であり, 2013年度にPlos One誌上で発表された.
