評判システムは協力行動の進化に重要な役割を果たすと考えられている。評判を通じて、協力者と裏切り者を見分け、協力者だけに協力で報いることが可能になるからである。本研究では、「同時に3人以上が相互作用する」ときに、このメカニズムが機能するのか(しないのか)について進化ゲーム理論モデルを用いて検証した。また、「実際の人間が本当に、協力者だけに協力で報いるという行動をとるのか?」、そして「その背後にある脳情報処理はどのようなものなのか?」についてfMRI(核磁気共鳴イメージング装置)を用いて実験的に検証した。1、進化ゲーム理論を用いた理論的研究の結果、以下のことが明らかになった。なお、本年度は以下の結果の厳密な解析、論文執筆を中心に行った。(1)「協力者には良い評判を付け、裏切り者には悪い評判を付ける」という単純な評判基準の下では、多人数の個体が相互作用に参加するケースにおける協力状態は安定的に保たれるだけではなく、カオス、周期的振動など様々な形態で保たれ得る。(2)上記の評判基準の下では、三人以上が相互作用するとき協力状態は安定的に保たれる(進化ダイナミクスの漸近安定な均衡として実現する)。一方、相互作用が二者間で行われるときは、上記の評判基準の下では協力状態は安定的に保たれない。(3)相互作用する人数が増加すると、協力行動の進化は困難になる。2、一方、fMRIを用いた被験者実験の結果、以下のことが分かった。(1)実際の人間は、「協力者(評判の良い人)には協力し、裏切り者(評判の悪い人)には裏切る」傾向を持つ。(2)また、特に裏切り者(評判の悪い人)に出会った際に脳のDLPFC(前頭葉外背側部)と呼ばれる部位が活動し、その結果、裏切り者には裏切りで報いる。
