本研究の目的は、ミャンマーにおける茶の生産、流通、消費を事例として、茶をめぐる民族間の社会動態を人類学的視座から考察することである。本研究では、ミャンマー最大の茶産地シャン州ナムサン郡で茶生産に従事するパラウン人が、2011年の民主化以降の政治経済的な変化をいかに経験しているのか、彼らの生業をめぐる社会関係から検討する。3年目の本年度は、ミャンマーで2回の現地調査を実施し、論文執筆の要となるデータの収集を行うとともに、その成果を研究会や論集への投稿を通して発表することを目指し、研究活動を遂行した。本年度は、2013年3月から6月、2013年8月から11月にかけて実施した、現地調査における主な成果は次の2点である。第一に、生業をめぐる社会関係を考察する上で要となる、茶園の所有者と労働者の関わりに関するデータを収集することができた。第二に、シャン州ナムサン郡において、茶生産という経済活動のみならず、研究蓄積が少ない農閑期の生活や仏教行事、政治活動について調査を行うことができた。2011年以降、ナムサン郡はパラウン民族の自治区となっているが、これまでミャンマーの自治区内の政治の実態についてほとんど報告がなされておらず、貴重な調査となった。研究発表は、2013年9月と2014年2月にヤンゴン大学の人類学科で開催されたInternational Joint Conferenceで発表した。9月の研究会には、現地研究者のみならず韓国や台湾の研究者らも参加しており、同じミャンマーを調査対象とする彼らと活発に意見交換をすることで国際的な学術交流を深めることができた。2月の研究会は、教育省の許可を得て研究会を開催することができた。また、昨年京都大学『東南アジア研究』に投稿した論文が、2014年4月9日に受理され2014年7月に発行予定である。この他、本年度は、国立民族学博物館共同研究会「「統制」と公共性の人類学的研究―ミャンマーにおけるモノ・情報・コミュニティ」の共同研究員として研究会に参加した。
