ベトナム南部のウー・ミン・トン国立公園には、ベトナムでも有数の森林湿地が存在する。この湿地を対象に、湿地の生物多様性を保全するためのプログラムを提案し、その実施に対するメコンデルタ地域住民の支払意思額について、仮想評価法を用いて推計した。その結果、平均支払意思額は約0.78米ドル/世帯となり、2010年における同地域の平均月間所得の0.32％の大きさであった。この0.78米ドル/世帯にメコンデルタ地域の都市住民世帯数117万を乗ずると、同地域の都市住民の生態系保全価値は1097万米ドル/年と推計された。これは、湿地を農業用に使用しないことに対する都市住民の価値であるから、メコンデルタ以外の住民の存在も考慮すると、この湿地保全には1097万米ドル/年以上の価値があると言える。この評価額は、同地域の保全措置をとるに十分な金額である。それゆえ、地方・中央政府はこの価値に見合った保全対策をとることが妥当と考えられる。次に、メコンデルタにあるトラン・チム国立公園の湿地を対象に、選択実験を用いて、生物多様性の価値を推計した。選択モデルの分析結果、メコンデルタ地域の住民は、健全な植生の１％の増加に対して0.52米ドル/年、哺乳動物種の追加的増加に対しては0.20米ドル/年、そして保全によって地域農家が被る損失の回避には100農家当たり1.38米ドル/年の支払意思額を持つことが明らかになった。また、選択モデルにおいて、保全対策をとることより現状のままでよいと答えた人々の割合は66％であった。他方、現状維持よりも保全対策の実施を選択した人々は、若くて教育水準や所得が高く、生物保全に関する知識も持っていた。このような分析結果から、地方政府や公園管理者は、専門家だけでなく、市民の価値観も考慮して適切な保全計画を立てること、また環境保全には普及教育活動が重要であることが明らかになった。
