项目摘要

本研究の目的は日本近世絵画に描かれた「いのりのかたち」に焦点を絞り、江戸時代の庶民信仰の様相を美術史の視点から明らかにするものである。本研究課題の主軸をなす河鍋暁斎筆「地獄極楽めぐり図」（静嘉堂文庫美術館蔵）は、暁斎の有力なパトロンであった勝田五兵衛の娘、田鶴が夭折した際に追善供養のため制作された作品である。最終年度においても引き続き「地獄極楽めぐり図」研究を行い、河鍋暁斎記念美術館のご協力を得ながら口頭発表や論文執筆を通じて研究成果を発表した。本年度の研究成果として第一にあげられるのが、「地獄極楽めぐり図」において田鶴が摩耶夫人に見立てられている事を指摘した点であろう。この点については拙稿「河鍋暁斎筆『地獄極楽めぐり図』について(四)　―田鶴に投影された摩耶夫人の表象」（『河鍋暁斎研究誌　暁斎』第115号、河鍋暁斎記念美術館、2015年1月）にまとめた。本稿では中でも本作第三十八図「田鶴の極楽往生」に注目している。本図は田鶴が浄土に達した場面を描いたものだが、その構図やモチーフは伝統的な浄土図と趣が異なる。研究を進めていく中で、摩耶夫人がルンビニ園で釈迦を出産した様を描いた「釈迦誕生図」の構図やモチーフを基盤として、本作第三十八図が描かれたことがわかってきた。「釈迦誕生図」は版画や粉本を通じて江戸時代に広く流布したことは既によく知られており、河鍋暁斎記念美術館所蔵の粉本「中国仏閣図」も実際には「釈迦誕生図」を描いたものであることが本研究によって明らかにされ、ここに描かれた摩耶夫人の姿勢や表情が「地獄極楽めぐり図」第三十八図の田鶴と著しく類似することが判明した。以上、三年間の採用期間を通じ、全40図からなる「地獄極楽めぐり図」を一図ずつ解明していくことで、江戸時代における宗教表現の研究を遂行した。

The purpose of this study is to focus on the description of modern Japanese painting, the belief of the common people in the Edo period, and the perspective of art history. In the final year, the research on "Hell's End" was carried out, and the cooperation of the Kawaguchi Memorial Art Museum was obtained.
