本研究の目的は、近世後期に江戸幕府が設置した関東取締出役という役職について、広く勧農教諭政策を担う農政官であるとの視点に立ち、近世日本の教諭支配という文脈から位置づけを行うことである。3年目である本年度（2014年度）の課題は、昨年度より取り組んでいる、①関東取締出役の廻村活動・廻状網の具体的全体像を明らかにすること、および、②関東取締出役の農村教諭政策と幕末期の武装化の二つをつなぐ論理の検討を行い、③近世政治の特質は教諭による支配であると主張する「教諭支配」論からみたとき、関東取締出役の行動がいかに位置づけられるのか、という大きな問題に見通しを得ることであった。①については、研究の基礎データとなる、関東各地の自治体史所収の史料を収集し、整理するという作業を本年も引き続き行った。この作業は、想定をやや超えて時間がかかっており、当初想定していた規模でデータを構築することは叶わなかった。具体的な研究成果に結び付けるには今少し時間がかかることが見込まれるため、②幕末期へと分析の対象時期を下らせる当初の計画を変更し、データの絶対数が少ないため全体像が把握しやすい文化・文政期に焦点を絞り、これまで成果を出してきた文政改革論をより深く掘り下げることで、③の課題である「教諭支配」という近世政治の特質に迫ろうとした。このような視点から、本年度は、文化・文政期の関東取締出役の動向を扱った二度の口頭報告の機会を得た。これらの成果によって、文政改革に至る前後の幕府政策の多様な流れを把握し、文政改革の意義を多角的に明らかにし得た。また、こうした「教諭支配」を受ける地域社会の動向を明らかにした昨年度の口頭報告の内容を論文化し、一本の論文発表の機会も得た。
